MANCHESTER — The Ontario County Humane Society is asking for the public’s help as it investigates a case of possible animal abandonment.

Animal control officer Bill Martin said a female Shih Tzu-type dog was found wandering recently around the Prestige Communities park area off Route 96. Martin said the dog’s hair was matted, and that she is partially blind and deaf.

The dog is being cared for at the society’s Happy Tails shelter in Hopewell. Anyone with information on the dog or its owner is asked to call the humane society at (585) 396-4590.

The investigation popped up about a week after three dogs were left at the Geneva Veterinary Hospital on Pre-Emption Road. They were found tied to a post behind the facility.

Martin said those dogs did not have identification and are still at the Happy Tails shelter. As of this week, Martin said the society had fielded calls from people wanting to adopt the dogs, but had obtained no information on who left them there.
