WATERLOO — A Seneca County man was killed Tuesday night when his vehicle hit a culvert and overturned.

Anthony E. “Ted” Grillone, 76, of 1027 Stone Church Road, Junius, was pronounced dead at Geneva General Hospital shortly after the crash.

County deputies said the accident happened about 8 p.m. on Burgess Road. Grillone was northbound when he failed to navigate a curve. His vehicle careened into a ditch before hitting a stone culvert and overturning at least once.

Grillone, who was alone and not wearing a seat belt, was extricated from the vehicle by members of the Waterloo Fire Department. He was taken by North Seneca Ambulance to Geneva General.

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene. Burgess Road was closed for several hours.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
