To the Editor and the Lyons Community:

I believe in hope. I believe in the success of our Lyons CSD students and Lyons community, and I believe that if we all continue to work together we will be able to ensure the future of our children and our community.

Like many other districts across New York, the Lyons school community has faced some difficult and upsetting times. We have faced new challenges and been forced to make tough decisions. Throughout this process our main goal has continued to be our students.

On April 23, the Lyons Board of Education adopted the budget for the 2014-15 school year. Together, the BOE and administration worked to develop a budget that balances meeting the needs of our students, staying in compliance with the ever-increasing number of mandates, and also meeting the needs of our community in these fiscally challenging times. Although there will be changes, we are confident that we will be able to continue to provide a high-quality educational experience for our students while at the same time remain fiscally responsible to our taxpaying community.

I appreciate all of the support shown by students, parents and community members during these very difficult times. Your involvement, ideas and communication with our Board of Education and administrative team have been exceptional and appreciated. I encourage everyone to continue advocating for your children and your school. We must continue to work together to ensure a successful future for the Lyons community!

I encourage you to have continued hope and optimism in Lyons, and vote in support of the 2014-15 school budget on Tuesday, May 20.

DENISE DZIKOWSKI

Lyons superintendent
