HS BOYS SOCCER: Newark registers another shutout

The Newark boys soccer team recorded its second straight shutout Saturday with a 2-0 whitewash win over SS/Romulus.

Dan Staples backed up a strong Reds’ defensive effort with six saves in goal.

Daron Thurston provided the scoring for Newark (6-3, 4-3) after a scoreless first half. The senior finished off a feed from AJ Bueso in the 49th minute to make it 1-0. He added an insurance goal with 4:31 left on a penalty kick.

Kyle Darling (19 saves) had a big game in net for SS/Romulus (0-8, 0-7).

HAC 2, Honeoye 1 (2 OT)

BRIGHTON — John Jamieson beat the clock when he scored the game-winner with 1:13 remaining in the second overtime for the Wolves (3-5-1, 3-3). Galen Everett also hit the net; Ben Frenett set up both goals. Bjarn Nielsen stopped seven shots in goal.

Justin Kraft netted the lone goal for the Bulldogs (5-4, 4-2).


Bloomfield 3,

 Marcus Whitman 2

BLOOMFIELD — Neale Vanstralen, Ty Clauss and Connor Bailey all scored first half goals for Bloomfield (5-3-1, 5-1-1).

Connor Kelly and Jaret Brown answered with second half goals for Marcus Whitman (2-5-2, 1-5-2). Tyler Rohrback set up both tallies. Wildcats’ goalie Brennon Blodgett stopped nine shots.

Mynderse 5, Red Creek 0

RED CREEK — Jason Anderson scored twice while John Wilson, Jacob Hartwell and Philip Galusha added strikes for Mynderse (8-0-1).

Jimmy Ricci, Brandon Bells and Patrick Russo picked up assists.

Naples 2,

Jasper-Troupsburg 1

TROUPSBURG — Flynn Willsea struck for a goal and assists to lead Naples (10-0-1). Adrian Black also tallied.


Marcus Whitman 2,

Geneva 2

GENEVA — Nathan Lindley tallied twice for Marcus Whitman while Nate Gadoury hit the back of the net both times for Geneva.


Victor 1, Webster Thomas 0

VICTOR — Tom Kolb scored the only goal of the game to lift Victor (6-4, 4-2). Goalie Alex Kasper recorded his fifth shutout with 17 saves.

Finger Lakes Christian 3, Cortland Christian 1

CORTLAND — Sam Martin scored twice while Danny Netti added a goal and three assists for Finger Lakes. Zach Curtis also scored and goalie Johnny Eldred piled up 12 saves.
