HS GIRLS TENNIS: Marion gets past NR-W

MARION — The Marion girls tennis team did its part Friday afternoon in their drive towards a Wayne County league title.

The Black Knights squeaked past Lyons behind a perfect singles performance by Rachael Thomas, Alyson Holohan and Jessa Matteson to earn a 3-2 win.

With the win, Marion (7-3) completes their league schedule at 6-2. League-leading North Rose-Wolcott (5-1, 4-1) hosts Sodus (5-2, 4-2), who is also in contention, Tuesday at 4 p.m. The two squads will follow their match with the completion of a prior suspended match.

Thomas, Holohan and Matteson all went perfect with 6-0, 6-0 scores in their singles triumphs.

Emily Gifford and Erica Hunt earned a double point for Lyons (1-8, 0-7). Kayla and Kendra Pentycofe had the other.

Pal-Mac Invitational

PALMYRA — The Red Raiders claimed the title with 21 matches won. Finger Lakes foes Marcus Whitman (7) and Penn Yan Academy (3) took third and fourth, respectively.

Pal-Mac’s Audrey Knorr nipped Whitman’s Heidi Rice in first singles 8-6.

The Red Raiders swept doubles behind the teams of Elizabeth Reid/Corin Deloge (1st), Cara Graham/Lydia Williams (2nd), Page Sapienza/Sara Sapienza (3rd) and Sam Donatello/Kendall Jones (4th).
