BATH — Following a winless regular season, the Waterloo girls tennis squad finally broke into the ‘W’ column during the most important time of the year: Sectionals.
The ninth-seeded Indians swept singles competition during their Section V Class B tournament play-in match to claim their first victory of the season, a 3-2 triumph over eighth-seeded Haverling Tuesday afternoon.
Waterloo (1-10) moves on to face Finger Lakes East foe and league champion Palmyra-Macedon. The top-seeded Red Raiders will host the quarterfinal match today.
No. 1 singles player Elsa Jorgensen won a 10-8 second-set tiebreaker to secure a straight-set triumph for the Indians. Jasmine Dilworth and Sara Alexander combined to drop just five games in their straight-set victories at Nos. 2 and 3 singles.

WATKINS GLEN — Emily Gifford supplied one of the Lions’ two points at No. 2 singles. Kayla and Kendra Pentycofe earned a doubles win.

PENN YAN — Rachel Maslyn, Heather Lee and Colleen Cincotta earned singles wins for the Mustangs (8-3).
Hannah Christensen and Ashley Owens picked up a doubles win. Brittani Miller and Emily Smith had the other.

GREECE — Melissa Wahl secured the lone point for the Spartans (8-4) with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph at No. 2 singles.
No. 3 Naples 4, No. 6 Hammondsport 1
NAPLES — Ally Arsenault and Julie Fisher, along with Chloe Hamman and Karli Stekl, combined on a doubles sweep for Naples (9-3). Jessie Gorcica and Jennie Betts won singles matches.
