ELMIRA — The Newark boys basketball team made its trip south worthwhile with a championship in the D2 division of the Elmira Tournament Monday.

The Reds extended their winning streak to five games with a 60-39 win over Elmira Notre Dame in the title game.

Newark owned a 40-31 lead at the end of three quarters and put the game away with a 20-8 fourth-quarter outburst.

Zeron Bratcher sealed tournament MVP honors with 12 points, five rebounds and two steals in the championship game. Jaymee Rosser earned a spot on the all-tournament team with 11 points, nine rebounds and four steals. Micah Wright was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Defensive Player.
