GENEVA — The Midlakes golf team was the last squad to defeat the perennial powerhouse from Geneva High.

The Screaming Eagles topped the Panthers 220-227 way back on Sept. 16, 2009.

Since then, Geneva has been riding a 45-match unbeaten streak that includes 44 wins and a tie against Waterloo this season.

Midlakes crept up and ended that streak Monday afternoon.

Sophomore Jake Blondell shot a 42 to spark the Eagles to a 231-232 at Geneva Country Club.

“We’ve been playing consistently and we got some nice help from Jason (Simmons) and we’ve been peaking, this is our sixth win in a row,” Midlakes coach Jeff Beall said. “I think we were ready for a good match and we delivered. Our guys had a team effort.”

Senior Brandon Forjone and junior Jason Simmons both supplied 45s for the Eagles (9-3).

“I was really proud of the guys,” Blondell said. “I’ve been telling them all year to play your game and shoot as good as you can and we’re going to beat them eventually so I was really proud of them and Jason pulled off the good 45.”

Chris Salone led all golfers with a 41 for the league-champion Panthers (9-1-1), who have won 10-straight crowns. Mike Long carded a 46.
