HS SOCCER: Panthers rally past Warriors

GENEVA — The Romulus girls soccer team got off to a promising start in Friday’s Finger Lakes West road game against Geneva.

It didn’t take the Panthers long to rebound, though.

The Warriors netted the first goal of the game, but Geneva responded with the next three to come away with a 3-1 victory.

Paola Figueroa gave Romulus (5-5, 3-3) a 1-0 lead in the 24th minute off a feed from Jessica Rhone. Geneva (6-5, 4-3) tied it up two minutes later when Madison Maher scored off a pass from Audreana Tosado.  

Bethanny Jolly and Maher added second half tallies; Ali Cala was credited with two assists while Tamari Bakauri picked up another.

Stephanie Smart hauled in 11 saves in goal for Geneva. Jenny Tompkins turned aside eight shots for Romulus.

NON-LEAGUE

Penn Yan 1, Midlakes 0

PHELPS — Kayli Harling netted the only goal of the game in the first half to guide Penn Yan (5-6). Casanna Banach secured the shutout behind 11 saves.

Maggie Notter pulled in eight saves for Midlakes (3-6-2).

Pal-Mac 3, Red Jacket 2

PALMYRA — Samantha Gagliano, Elle Cummings and Kelsi Nau scored second half goals as Pal-Mac (6-3-2) overcame a 2-0 deficit. goalie Jessica Locey racked up five saves.

Emily Hotchkiss and Josie Scherer each scored Red Jacket (6-4-1). Danielle Ogrodowski made three saves in goal.

Wayne 1,

Honeoye Falls-Lima 0

LIMA — Julie Dombroski headed in a corner kick from Brittany Maggio with five minutes left in the second overtime for Wayne (9-2-1).

Jenna Rohlin stopped seven shots in goal for the Eagles.

FINGER LAKES WEST

Dundee 1, Romulus 0 (OT)

ROMULUS — Tayler Morrison netted the game-winner in the 12th minute of overtime for the Scots (4-7-1, 3-3-1).

Dundee’s Hannah Stone set up the score. Goalie Melvina Rhode stopped eight shots.

NON-LEAGUE

Gananda 3, Mynderse 0

WALWORTH — Katie White, Mallory Velte and Jordyn Ruston all tallied goals for the Blue Panthers (12-0). Ruston ranks second in Section V with 22 scores.

Ruston and Velte each provided assists. Darci MacFall collected two saves.

Jessica Parish made 12 stops for the Blue Devils (7-4-2).

Red Creek 2,

North Rose-Wolcott 0

WOLCOTT — Willie Meyer scored both goals for Red Creek (6-6, 4-5) while goalie Cullen Sherman stopped four shots.

Skyler Tuper made three saves in net for NR-W (4-8, 3-6).

NON-LEAGUE

Wayne 4, Marion 1

MARION — The Eagles chalked up three second half tallies, two off the foot of Paul Dinehart.

Austin Patterson and Dan Ortiz accounted for the other two scores.

Sodus 1,

Finney/Northstar 0

SODUS — Jon Derrenbacher scored the only goal of the game in the 32nd minute for Sodus. Sal Sierra made two saves for the shutout.
