SHORTSVILLE — Ontario Insurance Co., which last year celebrated its 140th anniversary, has appointed Alan Fry as chief operating officer and executive vice president.

A Florida resident with 15 years of experience in the legal and insurance fields, Fry has relocated to the Finger Lakes region to take the leadership role with the company.

Fry was selected as COO following a nationwide search led by a local recruiting firm and Ontario Insurance Co.’s board of directors. The hiring of its first COO follows a recordbreaking year for Ontario Insurance. In 2017, the company generated its highest revenue in its history, while also achieving a new record for total independent agents carrying its products.

Fry is the son of Keith Fry, the current president and CEO, who had recused himself from the hiring decision.

Previously, Alan Fry served as vice president and corporate counsel at Ring Power Corp., a distributor and seller of construction, agricultural and power-generation machinery and equipment. Fry’s responsibilities at the self-insured, 2,000-employee company included risk management, compliance, handling of self-insured claims, litigation management and more.

Earlier in his career, he worked as an attorney at Akerman LLP, Carlton Fields and Jones Day. He earned his law degree at the University of Chicago Law School and a bachelor’s degree in psychology at DePaul University.

Among his other responsibilities as COO, Alan Fry will seek to expand the company’s presence in the brewery marketplace to keep pace with the demand of New York’s booming craft beverage industry.
