Food, donations sought for food closet

Maria Walton is collecting food and donations for the Newark Food Closet at upcoming spring music concerts.

NEWARK — Retired Perkins School music teacher Maria Walton, who volunteers on behalf of the district’s music department, is organizing a collection of food and money to help the Newark Food Closet at the five remaining concerts this school year.

Those attending any of the upcoming concerts are asked to take one or more non-perishable food items for the Food Closet. Or, provide a monetary donation.

The Newark Food Closet serves over 1,200 families from Newark, Port Gibson and East Palmyra.

Walton will be collecting food at the remaining concerts this school year:

• Kelley School concert featuring beginning band/continuing band, Bucket Brigade, fourth- and fifth-grade choruses, 7 p.m. May 30 in the Kelley School auditorium

• High School band spring concert, 7:30 p.m. June 3, High School auditorium

• Sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade band concert, 7 p.m., June 4 Middle School auditorium

• High School choral spring concert, 7:30 p.m. June 5, High School auditorium

• Sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade chorus concert, 7 p.m. June 6, Middle School auditorium
