GENEVA — With high voter turnout expected for the general election Tuesday, the City School District is taking additional measures to handle parking issues associated with voting at West Street School.
West Street School has historically served as a Geneva poll site and will do so again this Election Day. However, the Ontario County Board of Elections is looking into alternate locations for future elections, said the district.
New polling locations have been found for North Street School and Geneva High School, but a change was not possible for West Street School for the Tuesday election.
Voters whose poll site is West Street School are being asked to park in the parking lot across the street from the school. Handicapped parking is available in the parking lot beside the school. However, parking will not be allowed in the bus loop, which also serves as a fire lane.
The district said voters should be aware that high traffic is expected when the school day opens between 7:40 and 8:40 a.m. and when the school day closes between 2:30 and 3:30 p.m.
Parents, guardians and buses typically drop off and pick up children during those time frames.
“We’d like to thank voters in advance for helping us keep traffic congestion to a minimum and ensure student safety,” said Superintendent Trina Newton. “Voters at West Street School have always been extremely respectful of the fact that school is in session, and I’m sure that will be the case this year as well. We welcome the voting public and are proud to do our part Election Day.”
