SENECA FALLS — Pre-registration is underway for the 2019 New York State FFA Tractor Driving Safety Contest.

The contest, which is open to students 14-18 years old, will be held Aug. 8 as part of Empire Farm Days at Rodman Lott and Son Farms. The pre-registration deadline is July 30.

Participants will be judged on a written exam and how well they can identify tractor parts, in addition to their driving performance. Entrants must demonstrate their ability to maneuver a farm tractor with a two-wheel and four-wheel wagon attached. They will drive new, 4-by-4, 55-75hp tractors provided by contest sponsors Case International, John Deere, Kubota, New Holland, H&S Farm Equipment, the New York Center for Agricultural Medicine and Health, Java Farm Supply, Lamb and Webster, and the New York FFA Foundation.

Students who are FFA members are judged in two age divisions: 14-16 and 16-18. Members of 4-H who are not FFA members compete in a separate division. The senior division winner goes on to compete at the Eastern States Exposition in Springfield, Mass., in September.

To pre-register, email coordinator Jon Clayson at Pioneer Central School at Students also can register the day of the contest.
