CANANDAIGUA — Ontario County Judge Brian Dennis sentenced a Geneva man to a lengthy prison term Tuesday for selling drugs last fall.

District Attorney Jim Ritts said Ryan Reeder, 37, was sentenced to nine years in prison for third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance (class B felony). He was convicted of that charge in a jury trial earlier this year.

Reeder was found guilty of selling fentanyl and heroin last Sept. 19 in Canandaigua. He was found not guilty of selling drugs last Sept. 13 in Geneva.

Reeder had previously rejected an offer to plead guilty and spend five years in prison.

In 2015, Reeder had a criminally negligent homicide charge dismissed in Seneca County Court following the drug-related death of an Ontario County woman. Reeder was accused of injecting her with an unspecified substance in Varick.

Then-Seneca County Judge Dennis Bender ruled that Reeder made inconsistent statements about whether the woman injected herself on two other occasions, or whether he injected her one of those times. The judge, while calling Reeder’s conduct “reprehensible,” said there was not enough evidence to support the homicide charge.
