SENECA FALLS — A local Girl Scout leader faces three felony charges for allegedly stealing more than $2,000 from her troop.
Jennifer L. Balliette, 40, of Troup Street, was charged Thursday by Seneca Falls police with fourth-degree grand larceny, first-degree falsifying business records, and first-degree scheme to defraud.
Balliette was charged after an investigation that lasted about two months. Police said over several years, Balliette — who was co-leader of the troop — stole funds through unauthorized ATM withdrawals, debit card purchases for personal use and electronic transfers to her personal account.
Sgt. Mike Petrocci, an investigator with the Seneca Falls Police Department, said the thefts ranged from $20 to several hundred dollars. Petrocci added that Balliette would make deposits to cover portions of the fraudulent usage, causing a net loss to the troop of nearly $2,100.
Police said Balliette maintained the troop’s financial records and was able to conceal the suspicious usage. She was given an appearance ticket for July 11 to Seneca Falls Town Court.
Since there are felony charges involved, her case will be handled in county court.
