NEWARK — A local woman accused of threatening to kill her children and holding one child’s head under water faces two felony charges as part of an investigation that is still active.
Jacqueline V. Iati, 31, of Driving Park Avenue, was charged Tuesday by Newark police with first-degree reckless endangerment (class D felony) and second-degree attempted assault (class E felony).
Newark Police Chief Mark Thoms said the charges stem from an ongoing investigation by his department, Wayne County Child Protective Services and the Wayne County District Attorney’s Office. The investigation is into alleged child abuse at Iati’s home involving her five children.
Thoms emailed the felony complaint to the Finger Lakes Times on Wednesday afternoon. It alleges that on the morning of June 12, Iati told her children she was going to kill them.
According to the complaint, Iati ordered her children upstairs to the bathroom, filled the bathtub with water and forced one of her children’s head into the water.
According to the complaint, Iati only stopped because the other children were yelling and screaming for her to stop.
Iati was arraigned at the Wayne County Jail and remanded in lieu of $250 bail or $500 bond.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call 911 or contact the Newark Police Department at (315) 331-3701.
