PENN YAN — Village police are reporting a drug-overdose death from last Friday.

Penn Yan Police Chief Thomas Dunham said when officers arrived at the scene, they found a victim who was not conscious and having extreme difficulty breathing. Dunham did not disclose the location of the incident or gender of the person, saying he wanted to protect the person’s identity and the family.

Officers performed first aid, and Penn Yan Ambulance personnel administrated Narcan when they arrived. The person was taken to Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead.

Dunham said a friend found the person unconscious and called another friend, who responded with a personal Narcan kit. When that did not work, they called 911.

Officers found a used syringe and several unused syringes at the scene, Dunham said.
