WATERLOO — After 25 years on the bench, Seneca County Judge Dennis Bender has indicated he will retire later this year.

In response to an email from the Finger Lakes Times last week, Bender said he will likely retire in the spring. He added that he would discuss his plans in more detail next month.

A Pennsylvania native, Bender is a graduate of Mynderse Academy and has a bachelor’s degree from St. John Fisher College. He earned his law degree from the University at Buffalo.

Bender, 65, was first elected Seneca County judge in 1993 and re-elected for 10-year terms in 2003 and ‘13. He served as the county’s district attorney for eight years before becoming judge.
