Medical debt forgiveness relief available for some FL, WNY residents
To the Editor:
Are you or someone you know having difficulty paying your medical bills? Well, you are not alone. Forty-three million (one in five) Americans have delinquent medical debt on their credit reports.
Medical debt contributes to greater than 60% of bankruptcies in America. Did you know that Americans live in the only industrial nation on earth that does not provide health care for its citizens? Even when we have health insurance, a single accident or unexpected illness can threaten our financial security.
With this in mind, Finger Lakes for the New York Health Act (FL4NYHealth), a Chapter of the New York Health Campaign, has made a commitment to raise $12,500 by Aug. 19 which will forgive $1 million of medical debt belonging to residents of the Finger Lakes Region and Western New York. This is made possible because RIP buys debt bundled for pennies on the dollar.
To accomplish this goal, Finger Lakes for the New York Health Act is working with RIP Medical Debt,(RIP), a New York based 501(c)3 not-for -profit corporation. RIP buys and forgives unpaid and unpayable medical debt across America for those in need.
If you are burdened by medical debt and live in the Finger Lakes region or Western New York, some of you will receive a YELLOW ENVELOPE in late fall from RIP Medical Debt with a letter inside saying your medical debt has been forgiven and deleted from your credit rating.
Under the New York Health Act no one would have to file for bankruptcy as a result of medical bills. No one would have medical debt because every resident of New York would automatically have access to medical care the same way we have access to schools, fire protection, and libraries. There would be no premiums, deductibles, or co-pays. We would pay for health care the same way we pay for Social Security.
If you would like to contribute to the debt relief project, you can make your tax-deductible donation one of two ways.
1. Mail a check payable to RIP Medical Debt marked R23 on the memo line to:
RIP Medical Debt
80 Theodore Fremd Avenue, Rye, NY 10580
2. Use their website to make a credit card donation. Again, mark “R23” in the comment area to be sure that your donation goes to our campaign.
