To the Editor:
This is a letter of protest concerning the charges against Elizabeth Catlin. As a young family with four children, we are a part of the close-knit Mennonite community. After experiencing a traumatic hospital birth with our first born, we are much in favor of the homebirths we experienced with our three other children.
Elizabeth Catlin was the gentle, caring woman who attended the homebirths. Her care for both mother and newborn was always excellent and to the best of her ability.
We feel her arrest was unjust. The accusations against her are unfair, and the statement that "she was exploiting Mennonite women" is ridiculous. The charges should be dropped. She is a vital part of our babies, our lives and the community. Do not deny her this privilege.
