Write your Congressman about unacceptable border situation
To the Editor:
The Art of the Deal. No!
The Art of Distraction. Yes!
When was the last time you thought about the 69,550 migrant children encamped in detention centers? Do you wonder what kind of care they are getting? Do you have learning centers? What is the effect of living in cramped camps long-term? Are they allowed outdoor activities? Are they served healthy meals?
The government has acknowledged that detaining children can lead to long-term physical and emotional trauma. Who has the chance to tour these centers and report back to the public? In fact, who is in charge? Where are the parents? When will these children be reunited with their parents?
In reality, we do not have time to ponder the situation because every day there is a new distraction! Syria, impeachment, Ukraine, school shootings, Supreme Court rulings, the 2020 presidential election and it goes on and on.
What to do? In this season of Thanksgiving, pause and remember these children, and take time to drop your Congressperson a note to remind him or her of this intolerable situation.
