The season opening wrestling match at Waterloo turned out to be one for the ages. Trailing 30-0 because of several forfeits due to still ineligible grapplers, Waterloo battled back to make the score Williamson 36 — Waterloo 30 with one pairing to go. Waterloo’s Hunter Conger, a freshman in his first varsity match and wrestling in the 285 lb. weight class, came from behind to pin his opponent in the final minutes and tie the score at 36. A tie-breaking formula was used to determine Waterloo the 37-36 winners of the event.

Waterloo’s Kaleb Seeley uses his right knee as leverage to avoid getting pinned against Williamson/Sodus wrestler Alan Aguilera-Rangel in the 152-pound weight class. Seeley went on to earn a vital six points for Waterloo by winning via pin in 2:40. Waterloo staged an epic comeback Monday night. Down 30-0 after the first five events, Waterloo won six out of the last seven weight classes to storm back and tie the meet 36-36. Though Waterloo forfeited six weight classes, every weight class they did compete in was a pin, giving them the decisive point and victory.
