Geneva vs. Mynderse baseball

GENEVA — The Geneva Panthers were finally able to open the 2017 campaign on Monday and they would start the year with a victory as they picked up a 7-5 win over Mynderse Academy.

Kyle Pierce went five innings on the hill with four hits, three strikeouts and two runs — none earned — to pick up the victory. Racer Lynch earned the save with three strikeouts in two innings of work.

Mike Baroody and Jake Perry each had two hits and one RBI to lead the Geneva offense.

Mynderse was led by Jesse Kabat, who went 2-for-4 at the plate and also went 5 1/3 innings on the mound and struck out five batters.

In other Finger Lakes East action:

Waterloo 5, Wayne 3

WATERLOO — CJ Stevens earned the win on the mound as he went 4 1/3 innings and struck out six batters.

Greg Hoke led Waterloo at the plate with a hit, one stolen base and one run. Kenny Matton earned the save on the mound with four strikeouts in two innings of work.

Tom Bolt, Nick Morrill and Jaiden Burlee each had two hits for Wayne.

Newark 10, Midlakes 8

NEWARK — Ben Cowles went 3-for-3 with a 2-run home run, a double and four RBIs as he helped the Reds (1-0) top Midlakes.

Ryan Velte earned the win on the mound for Newark, which also got two hits from Kayden Murray.

Devin Kelly led Midlakes (1-1) with four hits, including two doubles, and four RBIs.


Bloomfield 7, Marcus Whitman 1

GORHAM — Eion Joyce and Thomas Beikirch each had two hits to lead Bloomfield over Whitman.

Ben Brocklebank picked up the win on the mound with seven strikeouts in six innings.

Seven different Whitman (0-3) players had a hit in the loss.

South Seneca 4, Red Jacket 2

SHORTSVILLE — John Zajac went 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI as South Seneca (2-0) picked up the road win.

Jake Keeley led Red Jacket (1-2) with a double and two RBIs.


Sodus 12, Red Creek 3

SODUS — Daniel Johnson pitched six innings of six-hit ball with eight strikeouts, and he received plenty of offensive support. Alex Savory went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs; Kam Davis was 2 for 3 with a double and RBI; and Maliq Buron doubled and knocked in two runs.

Brett Gascoigne poked two hits in three at-bats for Red Creek. Nick Klein finished 2 for 4 with two stolen bases and an RBI.

East Rochester 4, Lyons 0

EAST ROCHESTER — Andrew Chilelli and Austin Mack combined on a 1-hitter and 13 strikeouts as they helped the host Bombers earn the shutout.

Corwyn Cleveland led the way on offense for ER with three hits and two RBIs.

Duncan Dobbins led Lyons with a double.


Canandaigua 12, Pittsford Mendon 2

PITTSFORD — The visiting Braves improved to 4-0 on the season with a victory on Monday.

Tanner Cooper earned the win on the mound after striking out six and not giving up an earned run.

Conner Fisher led the Braves at the plate with three hits and two RBIs.
