WATERLOO — The Waterloo girls volleyball team took full advantage of its expansive high school gym once again this year to bring several teams together for a good cause.
The Indians welcomed a dozen teams Saturday for their annual Dig Pink tournament. Westhill defeated LeRoy for the overall title while Honeoye topped Penn Yan 25-19, 27-25 in the Silver Finals.
More importantly, Waterloo head coach Christal Kent noted that the tournament raised over $2,100 between raffles, concessions, officials donations, admission and memory balls. All proceeds will be donated to the Waterloo High School Warriors Relay for Life team and the Seneca County American Cancer Society. Kent also thanked JV coach Tim Lincoln for coordinating the tournament, the JV and modified players for working, athletic director Jeff Panek, coaches and all the other volunteers.
On Friday, Honeoye hosted Mynderse in Finger Lakes West match, which was also the Bulldogs’ Dig 4 Pink night. The teams raised an additional $1,300 for cancer research.
