SENECA FALLS — Once again Mary Doell backed her team up as the senior captain scored two goals on route to a 4-0 victory for the Mynderse varsity girls soccer team on Friday night.
The second seeded Blue Devils (10-5-0) defeated No. 7 Wellsville in a Class B2 Section V Tournament quarterfinal match up at Mynderse Academy.
The score was 1-0 at the half after Doell connected for a goal (29:24) off an assist from Hannah Capacci. The second opened up quickly for the Blue Devils as Doell found the back of the net (37:57) with help from Gretchen Perine’s assist.
Scoring goals as well were Jordan Howell (27:10) and Perine (25:46), with assists coming from Doell and Chloe Morell.
The Blue Devils advance to the sectional semifinals at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, against Livonia (No. 3) at Honeoye Falls-Lima High School.

Newark 2, Midlakes 1
LYONS — Senior Camryn Pettit continues to prove her worth on the field each day. The Newark star scored the first goal of the game for the Reds as Newark (No. 4) earned a sectional playoff victory over Midlakes (No. 5) on Friday night.
Lynzee Havert scored for the Reds (11-5-0) as well against the Screaming Eagles (9-6-1), along with an assist from Grace Gajan. In goal for the team was Bailey McCormick with six saves in 80 minutes of playing time.
Newark will advance to the sectional semifinals at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, against top seeded Hornell at Canandaigua.
Penn Yan 0
PENN YAN — The season has presented many opportunities to Penn Yan on the soccer field and Friday night offered the same.
Penn Yan’s varsity girls squad (9-6-1), seeded fourth, took on No. 5 Bath (8-7-1) at home, under the lights, for a Class B2 Section V Tournament quarterfinal match.
The game resulted in a 1-0 loss for the Mustangs with Bath advancing to the semifinals at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Honeoye Falls-Lima High School.
Karleigh Wheeler accounted for one save in goal in her 80 minutes of action. Her stop proved to be the difference in the game.
Marcus Whitman 0
ADDISON — The Wildcats faced an uphill climb early on against Addison. It turned into a decisive win for third seeded Addison as they captured a shutout win over Marcus Whitman to advance to the sectional semifinals on Tuesday versus No. 2 Warsaw.
Tayah Jackson scored twice for Addison and was backed up with goals from Gabby Coletta, Jennifer Risley, and Kihara Gotshall. Makayla Bills added two assists and Payton Woodhouse and Alyssa Lynde contributed one assist each.
MARION — Marion junior Chloe DeLyser proved to be near unstoppable for No. 1 seeded Marion during the team’s Section V Tournament quarterfinal match up over Pembroke (No. 9) on Friday night.
DeLyser scored five goals on the night as she broke the New York State career goal scoring record that was previously held by Grand Island’s Maddie Pezzino with 251. DeLyser now has 256 goals on her record.
Scoring for Marion as well were Nina Gonzalez and Scarlett Keppen.
Marion advances to the semifinals at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 23, versus Holley (No. 4) at Webster Thomas.
South Seneca 5
KESHEQUA — Fourth seeded Kesheua (9-6-1) came out on top over No. 5 South Seneca (8-6-1) to advance to Tuesday’s sectional semifinal round.
Jasmine Mercado accounted for two goals along with scores from Keshequa teammates Macy Boss, Jenna Weir, and Hailey Moriarty. Payton Powers answered the call in goal as she registered a stop and played all 80 minutes.
Andover 5, Romulus 0
ANDOVER — The sixth seeded Romulus varsity girls soccer team (3-11-0) was defeated by third seeded Andover (11-5-0) in Saturday’s sectional quarterfinal game.
Livonia 1, Geneva 0 (OT)
LIVONIA — Bryce Hoang sealed the deal for Livonia (No. 4) with game-winning goal in overtime to defeat fifth seeded Geneva in a sectional match.
Bishop Kearney 1
SENECA FALLS — Mynderse will advance to the sectional semifinals with its win over sixth seeded Bishop Kearney on Saturday.
After a 0-0 stalemate at the half, Braiden Baker scored on a header off a crossing pattern from Jared Hartwell to give the Blue Devils (No. 3) the lead.
Griffin Herron scored on a breakaway to a help victory within sight for Mynderse.
“This was a tough game tonight but these guys pulled through,” said Mynderese head coach Lisa Anderson.
“Ethan Spinner was our rock in goal,” added Anderson. Spinner (4 aves) stopped two breakway shots on goal.
Mynderse will play in the semifinals on Wednesday.
