GENEVA — The Geneva Red Wings are closing in on first place in the western division of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League after they swept a two-game series with division-leading Jamestown.

Geneva completed the sweep with a 1-0 win over the Jammers at McDonough Park on Wednesday night.

Slater O’Brien earned the win on the mound as the Red Wings starter went seven innings with three strikeouts and only two hits allowed. Ben Terwillinger picked up the save as he allowed just one hit and struck out two in two scoreless innings.

Geneva scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Matt Smith singled to open the frame and moved to second on a groundout. Matt Chamberlain would drive home the run with an RBI single to make it 1-0.

Jake Evans, Justin Etts and Smith all had two hits in the victory.

Geneva will make the trip to Elmira tonight for a battle with the Pioneers.

Onondaga 4, Newark 1

ONONDAGA — The Pilots dropped to 3-11 on the season as they lost both games of a doubleheader on Wednesday.

In the first game, Graham Hackbarth and Josh Loeffler each had two hits for Newark.

Henry Martinez took the loss on the mound. He finished with six strikeouts, three earned runs and seven hits allowed in six innings of work.

The Pilots produced just four hits in the second game of the doubleheader.

Peter Battaglia, Po-Chuan Pan, Nick Ely and Jorge Leon all had singles for Newark in the loss.

Newark will visit Jamestown tonight.
