ELMIRA — The Geneva Red Wings kept pace with first-place Jamestown as they picked up a 5-2 road win over Elmira on Thursday night.
Jamestown, which leads the PGCBL West by one game over Geneva, took down Newark by a 9-3 score on Thursday.
Geneva (12-6) scored four runs over the first three innings of Thursday’s game to take control at Dunn Field. The Red Wings added another run in the top of the eighth before Elmira finally got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Will Simoneit led Geneva with two doubles, a single and one RBI. Justin Etts had a single and double, and Langston Livingston had an RBI double in the win.
Andy Reed earned the win on the mound as he tossed six shutout innings with four strikeouts and just three hits allowed. Jordan Murphy gave up two runs on two hits over two innings or work, and Devon King got the save with a scoreless ninth inning.
The Red Wings will host the Adirondack Trail Blazers at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday.
Jamestown 9, Newark 3
JAMESTOWN — The host Jammers (12-4) jumped out to a 4-0 lead and then added five more runs in the sixth to pick up the win.
Newark falls to 3-12 on the season and will host Onondaga tonight for a 7:05 p.m. contest.
Josh Loeffler, John Balliet, Peter Battaglia, Over Torres and Nick Ely had hits for Newark in the loss.
