The Finger Lakes league will send eight wrestlers to next week’s Division II state championships in Albany.

The local contingent grew by three Wednesday night when this year’s at-large wild-card selections were announced.

Midlakes 170-pounder Wyatt Smith (39-2), Marcus Whitman/Penn Yan 132-pounder Justin Smith (39-8) and Palmyra-Macedon 120-pounder Kaleb Burgess (50-6) each will make their state tournament debuts.

Pal-Mac will have three wrestlers competing at the Times Union Center next Friday and Saturday, as 99-pounder Jace Schafer (51-3) and 132-pounder Ethan Ferro (50-3) booked return trips by winning their respective weight classes at the Feb. 8-9 state qualifier. South Seneca 220-pounder Keagan Carmenatty (39-1) and Williamson 120-pounder Carter Schubert (37-3) are headed back to Albany as well. Mynderse Academy 152-pounder Trent Youngs (36-1) and Waterloo 285-pounder Jake DeWall (35-1) earned their initial state berths by prevailing in the state qualifier.

Waterloo 195-pounder Cole Marr (40-2), Midlakes 126-pounder Brandon MacDonell (40-5) and Pal-Mac 106-pound Dominic Affronti (25-6) are alternates. MacDonell is first alternate in his weight class, meaning he will participate if anyone drops out of the field.
