Ontario County in western New York... * Until 200 AM EDT. * At 1043 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain is tapering off to light rain. Between 1.5 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. Excessive runoff from heavy rain earlier today will continue to result in flooding of low lying and poor drainage areas, especially in eastern Ontario County. Local officials report flooding of basements and some roads ongoing in Geneva. * Some locations that will experience flooding include... Geneva, Canandaigua, Victor, Bristol, Clifton Springs, Phelps, Bloomfield, Naples, Honeoye, Farmington, Gorham, East Bloomfield, Manchester, Shortsville, Cottage City, Cheshire, Holcomb, and Seneca Castle. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain.
